Templates
How to browse ready workspaces, preview one live, and use it to start an artifact where you choose.
A template is a ready workspace. You use one to start an artifact that arrives working, with tables, views and example rows to swap for your own.
Where to find them
Templates stands at the foot of the sidebar. The home page has a Templates card too, which reads "Start from a ready workspace and choose where it lands." Inside a workspace, Create artifact opens the same templates.
Browsing
The templates come in three tabs.
| Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every template you can use. |
| Community | Templates shared with everyone. |
| Custom | Templates saved in your organisation. |
Search by name, or narrow the list with the Tags filter. The templates come a page at a time, with a pager at the foot.
Reading a card
Each card says what the template makes.
- Its name, with who made it beneath.
- What it is for, in a sentence or two.
- How many tables it holds, how often it has been used, and its version.
- Its tags.
A template made in your organisation carries a small people mark. Hover it to see who made it.
The creator's colour
The mark beside a template's name wears the colour its creator chose. A template with no chosen colour wears a steady colour taken from its name. An artifact made from the template starts in the creator's colour, and you can change it on the Appearance step.
Previewing and using one
View opens a live preview. It shows the template's real table and up to four of its views, and you can switch between them. Nothing you do in a preview is saved.
Use this template takes it. The form asks where it lands, what to call it, and who can see it. See Create an artifact for each step. All templates returns to the list.
Choosing where it lands
Opened from Templates, the form has a Workspace field. The first of your workspaces is chosen to start. Open it to search your workspaces and pick another. Opened from inside a workspace, the artifact always lands there.
Versions
Every template has a numbered version. An artifact made from one records the template's name and the version it was made from, shown under Made from in its settings. The artifact is yours and independent. A later version of the template never changes it.
