Create an artifact
How to create an artifact in a workspace, blank or from a template, and choose who can open it.
An artifact is the piece you build inside a workspace. You create one blank, or from a template that arrives working.
Where to start
- Inside a workspace, press Create artifact. The artifact lands in that workspace.
- From Templates in the sidebar, or the Templates card on the home page. You then choose the workspace it lands in.
Both open the same window, Create an artifact, on the list of templates.
Start from a template or blank
The window shows templates first. Most teams start from one, because it arrives with tables, views and example rows to swap for your own. View on a card opens a live preview, and Use this template takes it. See Templates for browsing and previewing.
To start empty instead, press Blank artifact at the foot of the window. A blank artifact holds one table with a column for names, one view and no rows. You add the rest inside.
The steps
Taking a template or the blank start opens a short form in two steps.
1. Details
Workspacewhen opened from TemplatesNamerequiredDescriptionrequiredTagsrequiredWho can see itshared or privateNext checks the answers. A missing or broken answer is said under its own field.
2. Appearance
Pick a colour for the artifact, or None. An artifact made from a template starts in the colour its creator chose. Back returns to the details.
Create makes the artifact and opens it. Escape steps back one screen at a time, and leaves the window from the template list.
Who can see it
| Choice | Who can open it |
|---|---|
| Everyone in the workspace | Every member of the workspace. |
| Only me | You alone. The artifact is private to you. |
Private artifacts are part of the Startup plan. On Hobby, Only me stands locked and the artifact is shared with the workspace's members.
After it is made
An artifact made from a template records where it came from. Its settings show the template's name and version under Made from. The artifact is independent. Later versions of the template never change it.
Rename, recolour, retag or redescribe an artifact from its settings. To remove one, move it to the trash.
