Keyboard

The keys that walk menus and the sidebar, rename, move a table, and close what is open.

Every menu, picker and the sidebar can be walked from the keyboard. Tab moves between controls as usual. A group of like controls, such as a row of tabs, a set of colours or the sidebar, is one stop for Tab, and the arrows move inside it. These keys do the rest.

The first press of Tab on any page shows Skip to content. Enter takes you past the top bar and the sidebar, straight into the page.

KeysWhat they do
Up and DownStep through the items. A disabled item is skipped, and the ends wrap round.
Home and EndJump to the first or the last item.
EnterChoose the item in focus.
EscapeClose the menu.

A menu opened with a right-click steps onto its first item on the first press. In a picker with a search box, the arrows run from the search into the list and back. While the search box has focus, Home and End move the cursor in the text.

Tabs and switches

A row of tabs is one stop for Tab, and it lands on the tab that is open. This holds for a table's tabs, the views under a table, the steps in Create an artifact, and switches such as Data and Dashboard.

KeysWhat they do
Left and RightOpen the next or the previous tab. The ends wrap round.
Home and EndOpen the first or the last tab.
Alt with Left or RightMove the tab in focus one place. This works on a table's tabs and on the views.
F2Rename the tab in focus, where a tab can be renamed.
Shift with F10, or the menu keyOpen the menu of a table's tab or a view.

A tab that cannot be opened yet is skipped.

Choosing one of a few

A set of choices where only one can be picked is one stop for Tab, and it lands on the one picked. This holds for colours, marks, palettes, the position of a card's text, and Who can see it.

KeysWhat they do
Up, Down, Left and RightPick the next or the previous choice. The ends wrap round. On the position grid, Up and Down move a whole row.
Home and EndPick the first or the last choice.

The sidebar

The sidebar is one stop for Tab. It lands on the row of the page you are on, and it walks like a tree once a row in it has focus.

KeysWhat they do
Up and DownStep through the rows. The walk stops at the top and the bottom.
Home and EndJump to the first or the last row.
RightUnfold a folded row. On an open row, step onto its first row inside.
LeftStep up to the row it sits under. On an open row, fold it.
EnterOpen the row in focus.
F2Rename the artifact or table in focus. A double-click does the same.
Alt with Up or DownMove the artifact or table in focus one place up or down. An artifact stays in its workspace, a table in its artifact.
Shift with F10, or the menu keyOpen the menu of a starred row. It offers Unstar.

The small buttons beside a row stand out of the Tab order. Right and Left fold and unfold, and a starred row unstars from its menu. To make a workspace, use New workspace on the My Workspaces page. To make an artifact in an empty workspace, open the workspace and choose Create artifact.

A workspace's artifacts

The artifacts on a workspace's page are one stop for Tab. Once you are in them, these keys work.

KeysWhat they do
Up, Down, Left and RightStep to the next artifact without choosing it.
Home and EndJump to the first or the last artifact.
SpaceChoose the artifact in focus, or let it go.
Shift with an arrowChoose every artifact from the last one chosen to the next.
Ctrl or Cmd with AChoose every artifact on the page.
EnterOpen the artifact in focus.
EscapeLet go of every chosen artifact.
Alt with an arrowMove the artifact in focus one place. Up and down move it a whole row.
Shift with F10, or the menu keyOpen the artifact's menu. It offers Star and everything the card's own buttons do.

The star and the More button on each card stand out of the Tab order, since the menu offers the same. Workspaces on the My Workspaces page walk the same way.

A board

A board's cards are one stop for Tab. Once you are in them, these keys work.

KeysWhat they do
Up and DownStep to the next card in the column.
Left and RightStep to the nearest card in the next column.
Home and EndJump to the first or the last card in the column.
Ctrl or Cmd with Home or EndJump to the first or the last card on the board.
Enter or SpaceOpen the card in focus.
Alt with an arrowMove the card in focus. Left and right move it to the next column.
Shift with F10, or the menu keyOpen the card's menu.

Renaming

While a name is open for editing, Enter saves it and Escape leaves it as it was. This holds in the sidebar, on a table's tab, and on a dashboard card's title.

The table

A table is one stop for Tab. Once you are in it, the arrows walk the cells. They keep working while the Ask AI panel is open beside the table.

KeysWhat they do
Up, Down, Left and RightStep to the next cell. Up from the first row reaches the column names, and below the last row stands Add one. Left of the first cell are the row's number and its handle.
Home and EndJump to the first or the last cell of the row.
Ctrl or Cmd with Home or EndJump to the first or the last cell of the table.
Enter or F2Open the cell in focus. On a column name, open its menu.
Any letter or numberOpen the cell and start writing with it.
SpaceTurn a yes or no cell over.
Alt with Left or RightMove the column in focus one place.
Alt with Up or DownMove the row in focus one place within its group.

Rows choose the way artifacts do. A row's number turns into a tick box, and a click on it chooses the row or lets it go. Shift with a click on a tick box adds every row between it and the last one chosen. On a row's handle, Shift with a click chooses the rows between, and Cmd or Ctrl with a click adds one or takes it away. The count chosen stands at the foot of the table. Escape lets go of every chosen row.

Cells

In a single-line cell, Enter saves what you typed and Escape leaves the cell without saving. Either way the focus goes back to the cell. A number cell takes only a number, and the arrows never change it.

Escape

Escape closes the top thing that is open, one layer at a time.

  • A menu, a picker or a dialog closes. A question that asks first answers no.
  • Chosen rows are let go.
  • Full screen on an artifact returns to the normal page, once nothing above it is open or chosen.
  • In Create an artifact, Escape steps back one screen, and closes the window from the template list.
  • In the Marketplace, Escape closes a plugin's settings, then the plugin, before the Marketplace itself.
